iSpend. All data lost on upgrade to 3.0.1

Postby iPhone on Sat Aug 15, 2009 8:49 am

Hello,
Tonight upgraded my iPhone from firmware 2.2 to 3.0.1.
Unfortunately all the data in iSpend lost, including:
- My Expens logs
- Customized categories
- Settings
The most painful is to lost Expense logs. I am not going enter all the info again!
Why it is not restored by "Restore from backup" process? :(

All the data should be preserved and restored by iTunes, as with all other apps. Have you tried restoring from iTunes? You will also want to update your version of iSpend to fix some issues with the 3.0 firmware, but I don't think that would explain why the expense logs are not available. If you don't have luck with iTunes restore, try updating iSpend. Which version of iSpend do you currently have?

Currently I have iSpend v.3.0.1
>>Have you tried restoring from iTunes?
Yes, after upgrading the firmware, I invoked the "restore from backup" in iTunes.

Weird. We haven't had any other reports of losing data from the iPhone OS update. Since you couldn't install (I think) iSpend 3.0.1 without iPhone OS 3.0 installed, I assume you installed the iPhone OS update first, then updated iSpend. Did you notice whether the iSpend data was OK between updating the OS and updating the app? I also assume you had the latest iSpend (3.0) before that. It could help to determine whether updating the OS or the app was where the data went missing. Also, in iSpend version 2 i think, there was a bug which could cause the data to appear to be missing if the language (local date format actually) was changed on the iPhone between creating the data and looking for it again. This bug was fixed, and we use a neutral date format for data storage, but if you updated iSpend from an older version, and had changed your locale in iPhone prefs, that could be the problem. I wish I could be more helpful.

edit:
OK I got confused. It is iSpend 3.1 that requires OS 3.0. Try updating to the latest iSpend... it can't hurt at this point...

Application worked fine before firmware update. I didn't upgrade it because on 29/06/09 I bought directly iSpend to v3.0.1 ( I looked into receipt).

There are more weird things:
- After you mentioned v3.1 I went to iTunes Store and found that indeed there is newer version v3.1.0. It didn't appear automatically as available upgrade as usual. I tried to buy it and it indeed suggesting to buy it again, but I don't want to pay twice. I don't know what to do yet.

When you try to re-download an app you have already purchased, the AppStore recognizes this and after you give your password, it says "You have already purchased this app. Do you want to re-download it". I think what must have happened is this: You updated to OS3.0 after the iSpend 3.0-only update came out. When iSpend came out, you didn't get notified because the update wasn't for you. Once you did update your OS, the new iSpend was no longer new, so it apparently didn't show up as an update in the appstore. It seems like a bug in the appstore. It is also possible if you have multiple iTunes accounts that you see only apps/updates from one account at a time. I sguuest you try the download. Appl will refund you if it comes to that. If you want to try deleting and redownloading some $0.99 app as a test , rather than taking my word for it, I would completely understand. ;-)

Thank you. I think you are right. I sent the question to Apple on Thursday, no answer yet (if ever). For a formal support through their site they require me to pay them for this, because my location is not the US.
I think it will be the same if I'll pay 2nd time, won't be anybody to speak for the refund :(

Joy and trouble.
Bought the iSpend again from the iPhone and at the last step it is said that I already bought previous version so upgrade is free :). Now I have v 3.1.0.

Re-created one of the expense logs and entered a lot of data when the application crashed. All data including new categories seems to be lost. Playing with menu suddenly all is back. U-u-f.

Wanted to define Google Account for export but in Settings I do not see iSpend. Is it known issue?

Yes, the Settings in 3.0.1 were not showing up under iPhone3.0. A fix has been awaiting approval by Apple for about 5 weeks (or 3 weeks if you only count the time after we replaced the version of iSpend they rejected because the EMail button looks too much like their trademarked Mail App icon). Sorry it is taking so long. It is very frustrating.
