As with any app that has important data, make sure you have a reliable wireless connection and good battery charge before upgrading. We hope you like iSpend 2.0. Thanks to all the great input from this community, iSpend should meet most of your needs.
We will have the updated manual posted shortly. In the meanwhile, some things to take note of:
1) In the iPhone Settings app, you will find numerous options for iSpend, including your Google Docs account info, CSV date formatting options, since the alleged standard was not actually standard, and the option to jump to the GoogleDocs website to view your export immediately.
2) The new per-category Units setting lets you handle things like a mileage reimbursement by entering 'Miles' as the units, and your reimbursement rate (is it $0.53 for the IRS currently?). But the system is so flexible that you can make a category for labor costs charged at an hourly rate, or a category for a different currency, or a different exchange rate for the sme currency. Before you all ask for automatic lookup of the conversion rate from some website, ask yourself this, "when have I ever managed to exchange currency for exactly the rate that currency traders get?".
3) Payment types. You wanted them, you got 'em. They can be anything from the simple list "cash","credit", to a more complete list of all the possible credit cards or barter schemes: "Visa2525", "Amex","Cash","Cash/No Receipt", "Shiny Beads", "Sexual Favors".. getting reimbursment from accounting for barters is a challenge left for the user.
4) Of course you can take pictures of your receipts (or barters!). The pictures are stored directly in the iPhone camera roll, where thay can be processed and exported/uploaded by virtually any capable iPhone app, or by iTunes. Storing them in the app's private area, as is typical, would limit your choices substantially.
5) Going negative is in these days. From Wall St. to Washington, negative amounts of money are The Next Big Thing. You don't need to feel left out. You can enter a negative value as, for example, a per diem amount, than as you enter expenses in that category, they are added together. Conversely, you could enter a positive per diem, and then enter each expense as a negative to see how much is left over at a glance.
6) Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and everyone else who uses dollars but not the endangered US dollar, we have not forgotten you:
